Apache Secure Server

To provide secure e-commerce transactions, you will need to install Apache Secure Server. Apache has been shown to be substantially faster, more stable and more feature-full than many other web servers. Apache effectively is run on sites that have millions of hits per day without experiencing the performance difficulties associated with other web servers.

DNS/Bind Name Server

The DNS/Bind Name Server, DNS Manager, allows you to configure your domain name server giving total control over the name resolution for all domains registered to your Name Servers.

Jakarta Tomcat

Jakarta Tomcat provides the ability to run java servlets.

Additional RAM

Adding RAM allows you to handle additional resources and can increase server performance.

RAID

RAID Level 1 (RAID1) means that one drive mirrors the other. In the event that one of your drives fails, the other will immediately continue to serve data. An additional feature with RAID is that, if one drive is overtaxed, the overflow requests will be handled by the second drive. RAID1 requires two drives, only one of which you can use.

RAID Level 5 (RAID5) distributes the parity among the drives. This can speed small writes in multiprocessing systems, since the parity disk does not become a bottleneck. Because parity data must be skipped on each drive during reads, however, the performance for reads tends to be considerably lower. RAID Level 5 is n-1 meaning you lose the disk space of one drive in order to stripe data across the drives. A minimum of three drives is required for RAID5.

Configurable Hard Drive Backup Service

This is a disk-to-disk backup option, ideal for customers who run mission critical sites and require an experienced system administrator to backup all their data daily or weekly on a separate hard drive. Included with this option is an EIDE backup hard drive. This additional backup hard drive is a highly cost effective and reliable medium to back up your server data. Also, restoration of data from a disk is much faster and easier than from a tape.

Depending on your preference, our system admin can conduct these processes according to a predefined schedule of either daily or weekly. We run all backups every night/weekend, thereby allowing your server to function at full capacity during business hours. All data is backed up in real-time and there is no need to take your server offline.

SCSI Tape Drive 12/24 or 20/40 GB

We strongly recommend performing regular backups in case your site crashes or your files become corrupt. All servers can be configured with tape drives, allowing customers the option to backup their data themselves. Customers have the freedom to backup their data as often as they feel necessary: daily, weekly or monthly. Customers are solely responsible for performing and maintaining their own backups and restorations.

We do not support Application development and configuration, such as configuring commerce software or database applications. We can help troubleshoot the set-up of these; however, we will not control the implementation.

Managed services are performed between the hours of 6 AM and 8 PM PST (Pacific Standard Time) Monday through Friday. Services required on nights, weekends and on public/national holidays will be charged at an additional US$ 120/hr, over and above the monthly support fees.

All managed services have a minimum billable period of 15 minutes or US$ 30.

Load Balancing

Load balancing, also called throughput clustering, is a process of connecting multiple servers together in order to increase performance, reliability and capacity for your web application. If you administer a web site or web application that demands 100% server uptime and high-availability, load balancing is a necessity.
